Re-Elect Kshama Sawant

July 20, 20191 min read

Kshama Sawant is not for sale. She is currently seeking her 3rd term as Councilmember for the City of Seattle and is one of the only currently elected socialists in the United States. As a non-politician, Kshama shows how socialists can use elected office to empower working people. Her list of achievements and the movements she has spearheaded makes our choice to support her re-election campaign obvious:

From her work in making Seattle one of the first cities with a $15 an hour minimum wage to her push for renter's rights, including protections against economic evictions and payment plans for excessive move-in fees, Kshama has been a force standing up for working families in Seattle and across the region.

"A new politics is rising, and it holds out the promise of a new America. But it is important to remember where the next politics first began to be recognized. It was in Seattle, in 2013, with the election of Kshama Sawant to the city council. She ran and won as a proud socialist, and in office she has boldly advanced the cause of economic and social and racial justice. Kshama Sawant has been, and remains, a North Star figure—shining out from Seattle to the whole of the United States."

What happens in Seattle often affects not only the entire region but the whole country. We encourage socialists from across the state to support socialists everywhere. We recently held a meet-and-greet fundraiser for Kshama Sawant in Olympia. Her campaign was able to raise a significant amount to contribute to the fund to cancel out the PACs of Amazon and the Chamber of Commerce. If you missed the event and want to give to Kshama’s campaign, please do so directly via her campaign website.
